United Football Club Claims Victory in 4th NAV Multicultural Soccer Showdown

On the Progress Reserve Playground Coolaroo, the 4th Multicultural Soccer Tournament organized by the Nepalese Association of Victoria (NAV) in collaboration with the Royal Westerns Club Melbourne unfolded with fervor and camaraderie. A total of 12 teams, representing diverse cultural backgrounds, converged on Saturday, April 13, 2024, marking a celebration of unity through sport.

The United Football Club emerged victorious, with Sudan Lions claiming the runner-up position. Darsan Gurung of United Football Club was honored as the Best Player, while Fiji Bula Boys received the Fair Play Team award.

The tournament’s opening ceremony started with speeches from esteemed figures, including NAV President Prem Raj Upreti, Royal Western Club President Roshan Dahal, and Trung Luu Member of Parliament for the Western Metropolitan region, Vivienne Nguyen Chairperson of the Victorian Multicultural Commission, and Naim Kurt Mayor of Hume City, further emphasized the significance of cultural inclusivity and community cohesion.

Event Coordinator Ujjwal Adhikari warmly welcomed all participants, setting the tone for a day of spirited competition and mutual respect. Kathleen Matthews-ward-MP Member for Broadmeadows congratulated NAV for the successful tournament and expressed her support for multicultural community. Basanta Pokhrel Director of Expert Education and Visa Services- the title sponsor of the tournament shared his remarks for the community sports event.

Individual accolades, including Top Scorer and Best Goalkeeper of the tournament, added to the excitement, showcasing the talent and dedication of players from diverse backgrounds.

The success of the event was made possible through the generous support of title sponsor Expert Education and Visa Services, along with hospitality partner Kathmandu Cottage and co-sponsors Brighton College. Additional support from Extra Tech and Momobitz further enhanced the tournament experience for all involved.

Dr. Yakindra Timsina, the affable host of the proceedings, ensured a seamless and memorable event, leaving participants and spectators alike with cherished memories of a day filled with sportsmanship, camaraderie, and cultural exchange.
