Melbourne – In a sweeping reform set to redefine Australia’s student visa landscape, the government unveils its groundbreaking Genuine Student (GS) requirement, replacing the longstanding Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) mandate.

Effective March 23, 2024, this pivotal change aims to streamline the visa application process while ensuring that international students genuinely pursue education Down Under.

Under the new GS requirement, prospective students will undergo a rigorous assessment focusing solely on their genuine intent for education, rather than future migration prospects. This overhaul includes tailored questions in lieu of a cumbersome 300-word statement, delving into applicants’ motivations, course selection rationale, and ties to Australia.

Additionally, the updated visa declaration underscores compliance with visa conditions and the limited post-study migration pathways, marking a pivotal shift in visa processing protocols. Notably, alterations to English language requirements for Student and Temporary Graduate visas are on the horizon, pending further consultations.
